Colorado State football will be looking to rebound from a rough 3-9 season as 2019 looks to be a make-or-break year for head coach Mike Bobo.
Colorado State’s 2018 season was plagued by bad defense and a revolving door at quarterback early on in the year. As the year progressed Collin Hill established himself as the starter and the defensive line improved but the wins never came for this team.
And 2018 got off to a bad start from the jump as head coach Mike Bobo had to leave fall camp for treatment for peripheral neuropathy. His absence was felt and had an impact from the beginning going into a season that turned out to be the worst the Rams have had since 2012.
There were many times it felt like the Rams were turning a corner, such as their win at home against Arkansas, but consistency never developed for that team.
The pieces are there for a rebound year in Fort Collins, but the Rams secondary will have to improve and the offense will have to be more consistent even with the major pieces they lost in receivers Preston Williams and Olabisi Johnson, and running back Izzy Matthews.
Even with those loses the experience of Hill is invaluable this year. He was once the heir apparent to former starter Nick Stevens back in 2016; even somewhat supplanting Stevens as the starter until back to back ACL injuries cost Hill the rest of 2016 and all of 2017.
Defensive line will be a strength for this team with Emmanuel Jones, Ellison Hubbard and Devin Phillips manning things up front. The defensive secondary is where improvement has to come from for this team to win games.
