Can the youth on the SMU football team take the next step forward to propel the Mustangs to a bowl game in year two of Sonny Dykes?

In some ways last year’s 5-7 season was typical, and in other ways it was ironic. It was a typical Sonny Dykes-coached team because they were streaky.  Every place Dykes has been (Cal, Louisiana Tech, and SMU) the win-loss total is up and down.

It was ironic because the side of the ball not expected to be an issue was the offense.

Defensively, the Mustangs improved under defensive coordinator Kevin Kane. As the offense looks to catch up to the defense, out goes Ben Hicks going to Arkansas and in comes Shane Buechele from Texas.

They have an impressive set of wide receivers. Can the offense improve? Can the Mustangs continue to build on what Chad Morris left? Here’s a preview of the Southern Methodist University Mustangs’ offense, defense and a prediction of their 2019 record.
