Indiana Football: Can Hoosiers find way to get to bowl in 2019?
By Dante Pryor
How will the Hoosiers fare in 2019?
- Week 1: vs. Ball State (Aug. 31)
- Week 2: Eastern Illinois (Sept. 7)
- Week 3: Ohio State (Sept. 14)
- Week 4: Connecticut (Sept. 21)
- Week 5: at Michigan State (Sept. 28)
- Week 6: BYE
- Week 7: Rutgers (Oct. 12)
- Week 8: at Maryland (Oct. 19)
- Week 9: at Nebraska (Oct. 26)
- Week 10: Northwestern (Nov. 2)
- Week 11: BYE
- Week 12: at Penn State (Nov. 16)
- Week 13: Michigan (Nov. 23)
- Week 14: at Purdue (Nov. 30)
Unfortunately the Hoosiers play in arguably the most front-loaded division in the Power Five. They play Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State every year.
They fight and compete, but the superior talent of these teams win out every year. In fact, the Hoosiers’ consecutive mid-season four-game losing streaks involve some combination of those teams. Moreover, IU has gone 0-8 against the top four in the conference the last two seasons.
So the question is, where does the extra win come from?
This season’s schedule does not favor the Hoosiers. They play two of the top four in their division on the road and teams they might be even with (Maryland and Purdue) are on the road as well. We’ll see how much improved the Boilermakers and the Terrapins are this season.
Prediction: 5-7, 2-7 Big Ten
The Buckeyes and Wolverines both come to Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, but that’s probably not going to matter. The Hoosiers are in a perpetual Groundhog Day movie because it’s probably another four-game losing streak and another 5-7 season.
