Arizona Football: Kevin Sumlin faces major pressure in 2019
How will the Wildcats fare in 2019?
- Week 1: at Hawaii (Aug. 24)
- Week 2: Northern Arizona (Sep. 7)
- Week 3: Texas Tech (Sep. 14)
- Week 4: BYE
- Week 5: UCLA (Sep. 28)
- Week 6: at Colorado (Oct. 5)
- Week 7: Washington (Oct. 12)
- Week 8: at USC (Oct. 19)
- Week 9: at Stanford (Oct. 26)
- Week 10: Oregon State (Nov. 2)
- Week 11: BYE
- Week 12: at Oregon (Nov. 16)
- Week 13: Utah (Nov. 23)
- Week 14: at Arizona State (Nov. 29)
The Wildcats will open the season with an early matchup at Hawaii. The trip to play Hawaii is always a tough adjustment, but Arizona will still be a hefty favorite in that matchup. The matchup with the Big 12’s Texas Tech in week three is a big early-season opportunity. A win can do wonders for Arizona’s momentum, while a loss won’t hurt them in the conference standings and can serve as an early learning moment.
The road schedule gets very difficult late in the year. After hosting Washington on Oct. 12, Arizona will go on the road for the next two weeks, traveling to play both USC and Stanford.
They’ll also go on the road in two of the last three weeks of the season, hosting Utah and making the trip to Oregon and Arizona State.
Prediction: 6-6, 4-5 Pac-12
The schedule just proves too difficult for the Wildcats in 2019. They can make a bowl, but this team will have to fight for it. In an even-numbered year, where they host most of the better teams in the conference, the story may be different. However, that’s not the case.
The record may not be much improved, but the product on the field still may be. If Arizona brass can be patient, Kevin Sumlin can take this program in the right direction. In the immediacy, 2019 will be an uphill battle.
