SEC Football: Each team’s top Heisman Trophy candidate for 2019
LSU: Joe Burrow, QB
Every year, one of the biggest questions surrounding the Tigers remains, will they figure out the offense this year?
Ohio State transfer Joe Burrow brought stability in 2018, but LSU plans to truly unleash him this year. This has to be welcome news for a fan base that has wanted offensive variety for so long. As LSU makes the transition to a more RPO-oriented offense, it will be Burrow that leads the way.
Burrow sits at the intersection of LSU’s decision to modernize its offense, while still having the old-school roots of LSU football. One of the most important parts of the Heisman race, right or wrong, is team success. For Burrow, he could be leading a re-energized powerhouse in Baton Rouge.
Burrow threw for 2,894 yards in 2018, and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 16-5. If the offense really opens up as much as LSU has suggested, those numbers are set to make a huge jump.
