SEC Football: Each team’s top Heisman Trophy candidate for 2019
Texas A&M: Kellen Mond, QB
Against the Clemson team that would go on to defeat Alabama by a score of 44-16, Kellen Mond threw for 430 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. The Aggies would fall short, but that was the game that put Mond on the map.
On the year, the totaled 3,107 yards and 24 touchdowns, with only nine interceptions. Texas A&M won nine games in Jimbo Fisher’s first year as head coach.
Mond is the team’s leading returning rusher as well. He scored seven times on the ground and carried for 474 yards on the season. Jashaun Corbin should take over the running back position after the departure of Trayveon Williams, but Mond will continue to contribute on the ground.
The Aggies will travel to Clemson on September 7th this year. They also play Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and LSU. When it comes to Heisman moments, few players have as many chances as Mond.
