Georgia: D’Andre Swift, RB

Georgia hasn’t gotten over the hump of defeating Alabama, but they’re certainly starting to feel like the same program. That is most evident in the running back position. When Todd Gurley departed, Nick Chubb took over with little drop-off. Sony Michel would then emerge, and he would go on to be a first round NFL Draft pick last season.

Yet, somehow, the Bulldogs are now better at running back. D’Andre Swift may be a more dynamic runner than any of his predecessors. He pops off the television screen in such an electric fashion. Yes, Gurley, Chubb and Michel were all great backs, but Swift is just different.

Now, of course, he’ll be mostly alone in the backfield. In 2018, he split carries with Elijah Holyfield, and both would go on to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark. Zamir White, the freshman, will likely emerge as the number two back, but this is Swift’s backfield in 2019.

The quarterback position has dominated the Heisman Trophy in recent years, but Swift has a great chance to bring it back to running back, and bring it back to the SEC.
