5. Maurice Washington will be activated in time for Big Ten play

Nebraska has some major questions at the running back position heading into the season. It’s not a good sign for an offense that will face some physical defenses in the Big Ten. In fact, 1,000-yard rusher Devine Ozigbo is now on an NFL roster, and Maurice Washington has been suspended indefinitely as he deals with legal troubles off the field.

Now running backs Jaylin Bradley and Dedrick Mills will have to step up to the plate and both must be productive enough to keep the pressure off the quarterback. Neither rusher has the speed and soft hands of Washington, but both players have been taking snaps with the No. 1 offense throughout fall camp.

Washington probably won’t be needed in the first four games, but by the time Ohio State strolls into Lincoln he’ll be back on the sidelines ready to go. Rumor has it that Washington got his weight up to par and has become more of an explosive back. It’s only a matter of time before he’s inserted back into the Huskers’ starting lineup.
