The big question for BYU is whether they can recover from their loss against Boise State over the bye week and regroup in time to prepare for another showdown against a rival from the Mountain West. BYU will have a tall test to maneuver on the road if they hope to recover the Old Wagon Wheel from intrastate rivals Utah State.

Utah State gets back Gary Andersen as their head coach after he left Logan to take the gig at Wisconsin and then Oregon State.

Now back at the helm of the program where he made his name, Andersen is hoping to take advantage of a solid returning defense to push Boise State once again in the MWC Mountain. Working against hopes of a quick turnaround, though, is an offense that loses a lot of talent. The Aggies do, however, retain standout quarterback Jordan Love for another year.

This is another showdown that could go right down to the wire and, like the Tennessee game, could potentially be headed to overtime. Utah State’s defense is going to get its shots on Zach Wilson, forcing Lopini Katoa and the running game to pick up the slack.

Meanwhile, the Cougars’ defense is going to get burned a few times by Love. Look for BYU to slide back to .500 as they fall in extra time at home.

Prediction: BYU 24, Utah State 27 (OT) (4-4)
