QB1: Beyond the Lights: 5 instant takeaways from Season 3
5. Pinnacle (Ariz.) High is an absolute QB factory
Not many high schools have had the type of quarterback success Pinnacle (Ariz.) has over the years. Let’s just look at recent memory (since 2015), Pinnacle has been a powerhouse in the state of Arizona and has produced multiple Division 1 passers.
The first was Brian Lewerke in 2014 who went to Michigan State in the 2015 class and gave way to Spencer Rattler to start as a freshman in 2015. He went on to start for all four seasons in high school and became the No. 1 quarterback in the 2019 class, committing to the college level’s quarterback factory, Oklahoma. He’ll get a chance to compete for the starting job in Normal next season — or even if Jalen Hurts struggles.
You might be wondering who will take over for Rattler in 2019 and the answer was an obvious one as JD Johnson, a three-star in the 2020 class, starred when the five-star was injured and then ruled ineligible.
Johnson talked earlier in the season about having three offers, which is solid for a backup, but picked up a number of others and eventually committed to Michigan.
Pinnacle is a quarterback factory, having three Division 1 quarterbacks in the past five years. That’s actually unheard of.
