How will the Cyclones fare in 2019?

All these predictions are made under the assumption that there will be no injuries, suspensions or anything affecting whether a player can play or not.

Obviously this can all change before or during the season, but let’s break it down like everything is normal for each team and at the end of the season we can see how right or wrong we were.

  • Game 1: Northern Iowa (W) — Take care of business against a good FCS team.
  • Game 2: Iowa (W) — Matt Campbell has yet to beat the Hawkeyes, but this year that changes.
  • Game 3: ULM (W) — Take care of business against a Sun Belt team that has a dangerous quarterback.
  • Game 4: at Baylor (W) — Iowa State goes to Baylor for their first road game of the season and come away with a win.
  • Game 5: TCU (W) — The two best defenses’ in the Big 12 square off with the Cyclones coming out on top thanks to having a better offense.
  • Game 6: at WVU (W) — Always tough to win on the road in Morgantown, but the Cyclones come away with a win.
  • Game 7: at Texas Tech (W) — This could be a tough one, this could be a slip up game, but for now we have the Cyclones winning.
  • Game 8: Oklahoma State (W) — Close game that the Cyclones pull off.
  • Game 9: at Oklahoma (L) — Close game in Norman, but the Sooners hold on.
  • Game 10: Texas (L) — Iowa State coming off a loss in Norman faces their next toughest opponent. Longhorns get the win here.
  • Game 11: Kansas (W) — Good win against Kansas after losing two straight to OU and UT.
  • Game 12: at Kansas State (W) — Finish the regular season with a win at Kansas State.

Prediction: 10-2, 7-2 Big 12

Iowa State has a good enough team to make the Big 12 title game and going 7-2 in conference might be enough to do that if some tie-breakers fall its way.

I view Texas Tech as a potential slip up game, as Lubbock can be a tricky place to play. Also, the game against Iowa is a toss-up game as well, but am going with the Cyclones.

The defense is stacked for the Cyclones, they have one of the best coaches in college football, and they have one of the most exciting young quarterbacks in college football despite losing their top receiver and running back.

The Cyclones will have a serious shot to make the Big 12 title game, but will need to avoid any slip ups against teams that may not be as good as the them and hope the Longhorns and/or Sooners have a slip-up game or two.
