Iowa State Football: Game-by-game predictions for 2019
Last year, Texas beat Iowa State 24-10 in Austin. The Longhorns were in control the entire game and the Cyclones got a score late in the game to make it look closer than what it was. This was Brock Purdy’s toughest game of his freshman year as he was only 10-for-23 and threw for his lowest total yards in a game with 130 and had zero touchdowns with one interception.
Texas is a dark-horse to make it to the College Football Playoff and is led by top Heisman candidate Sam Ehlinger. He and Purdy are two of the best quarterbacks in the Big 12 and this should be a good duel between them.
I expect a back-and-forth game with a lot of field goals being kicked as both defenses will bend but not break.
Like Oklahoma, I don’t think Texas will go undefeated in 2019, but I think they end up on top against Iowa State in a close game that comes down to the wire that Ehlinger ends up winning for the Longhorns. There will be drama at the top of Big 12 at the end of the year.
Final Score: Texas 27, Iowa State 23 (8-2, 5-2)
