Baylor Football: Will Bears make another jump under Matt Rhule?
By Matt Workman
How will the Bears fare in 2019?
- Week 1: Stephen F. Austin (Aug. 31)
- Week 2: UTSA (Sept. 7)
- Week 3: BYE
- Week 4: at Rice (Sept. 21)
- Week 5: Iowa State (Sept. 28)
- Week 6: at Kansas State (Oct. 5)
- Week 7: Texas Tech (Oct. 12)
- Week 8: at Oklahoma State (Oct. 19)
- Week 9: BYE
- Week 10: West Virginia (Oct. 31)
- Week 11: at TCU (Nov. 9)
- Week 12: Oklahoma (Nov. 16)
- Week 13: Texas (Nov. 23)
- Week 14: at Kansas (Nov. 30)
Baylor football should start off fast by opening up at home against Stephen F. Austin followed by another home game against UTSA. Baylor gets an early bye before its first road game against Rice. The Bears’ relatively easy non-conference schedule should set them up well before welcoming Big 12 foe Iowa State on Sept. 28.
The first half of conference schedule is pretty balanced for the Bears. They get Iowa State and Texas Tech at home and travel to Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Baylor will get their second bye week following trip to Stillwater before home match up against West Virginia in Waco.
Baylor will face three of the four new head coaches in the league in the first half of conference play.
The back-half of the season sets up pretty good as well. Baylor will get its toughest games at home with Texas and Oklahoma traveling to Waco. Those two games are book-ended by road games against TCU and Kansas.
Prediction: 9-3, 6-3 Big 12
Baylor having and easy non-conference schedule helps set them up for success in 2019. After that the fact that they get Iowa State and Texas Tech at home while taking advantage of teams with new coaches makes Baylor very successful the first part of the season.
Stillwater is always a tough game and having to face your rival on the road is not great either so I believe Baylor will drop games to Oklahoma State and TCU. Baylor will also catch one the their two toughest opponents off guard and I believe this will be Texas. This season could shape up to be a great year for Baylor with a chance to set up an even more impressive 2020 for Matt Rhule and his Bears.
