4. Hawaii enjoys home-field advantage on the island

There is always something to be said about getting to play at home to open the season. Arizona starts the season traveling nearly 6,000 miles round-trip to face off against a Group of Five foe. In many ways it is a lose-lose situation for the Wildcats, who are putting a lot of miles on their bodies right out of the gate for a game that offers little upside in victory and a lot of risk of defeat.

Working in Arizona’s favor, they at least get a bye week in Week 1 and FCS Northern Arizona in Week 2 to recuperate from the travel. Hawaii, though, has the far more advantageous situation.

They will get to sleep in their own beds, eat familiar food, and stay on a normal schedule. The Rainbow Warriors are already acclimated to the time zone, which is three hours earlier than Tucson.

After losing three times in their last four games on home turf, it might seem wise to brush off the notion that playing at home works to Hawaii’s advantage. But the Rainbow Warriors will be motivated to end that streak of futility at Aloha Stadium, and the home crowd will be fired up for what guarantees to be a high-octane affair.
