Southern Miss is historically a solid program in Conference USA and the Group of Five as a whole. They went 6-5 last year and had their season cut short by one game due to a hurricane. They barely missed a bowl, but will be looking to getting back to postseason play and competing for a C-USA championship.

Southern Miss brings back quarterback Jack Abraham who was one of the most accurate passers in the country last year. While there is supposedly a quarterback competition going on, I fully expect him to be under center when the Golden Eagles play the Bulldogs in Week 2.

This in-state game is always exciting for the state of Mississippi, especially Southern Miss fans as they always look forward to upsetting a Power Five program from down the road.

Mississippi State’s defense will be solid in this one, not letting Southern Miss move the ball much and the Bulldogs will find rhythm offensively in the second half which will lead them to a comfortable win for the second week in a row with a similar score to Week 1.

Final Score: Southern Miss 13, Mississippi State 31 (2-0)
