How will the Longhorns fare in 2019?
- Week 1: Louisiana Tech (Aug. 31)
- Week 2: LSU (Sept. 7)
- Week 3: at Rice (Sept. 14)
- Week 4: Oklahoma State (Sept. 21)
- Week 5: BYE
- Week 6: at West Virginia (Oct. 5)
- Week 7: Oklahoma (Oct. 12)
- Week 8: Kansas (Oct. 19)
- Week 9: TCU (Oct. 26)
- Week 10: BYE
- Week 11: Kansas State (Nov.9)
- Week 12: at Iowa State (Nov. 16)
- Week 13: at Baylor (Nov. 23)
- Week 14: Texas Tech (Nov. 29)
Whew, that is quite the schedule. Except, the schedule is tough simply because the Big 12 is stacked with powerful offenses. Even teams like TCU can put up big scoring games.
Texas should have no issues with Louisiana Tech. Frankly, this is the perfect game to get them warmed up for LSU. Most teams make their biggest improvements of the year between Weeks 1 and 2. So, the Longhorns will be ready to host LSU. But, the Tigers will also make improvements between the first two weeks. Therefore, in an extremely close game, LSU will pull out an away victory.
Texas will easily rebound from their sorrows against Rice. They will then earn a confidence boosting win at home against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Their first bye week comes at an ideal point in the schedule. With extra time to prepare for an away matchup with the Mountaineers, Texas will steal a win away from West Virginia.
Heading into the Red River Showdown, the Longhorns will be 4-1 with overwhelming belief in themselves. Yet, Jalen Hurts will be on the other side of the field. In Lincoln Riley’s system, Hurts’ ability will be maximized and the Sooners will come out on top.
Prediction: 10-2, 8-1 Big 12
The rest of Texas’ schedule should all be wins. TCU would give the Longhorns issues if it were in Fort Worth, but it’s not. Texas will finish with two losses on the season, but will likely be enough to get them back to the Big 12 Championship Game.
