Kennedy Brooks was a four-star recruit coming out of Mansfield, Texas, where he attended Mansfield High School. He received 15 offers from some of the nation’s top programs but committed to the Sooners because of their long tradition of producing elite NFL running backs including Adrian Peterson who Brooks has a number of things in common with.

First of all, they’re both running backs from Texas who turned down offers from home state powerhouses to play for the Texas Longhorns’ arch-rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners.

Peterson and Books also had very similar stats during their senior season of high school. Both averaged over 10 yards a carry, both rushed for over 2,800 yards but when it comes to touchdowns Peterson only had 32 while Brooks racked up a whopping 40 rushing touchdowns.

Surprisingly, Kennedy has continued to put up similar yards per carry numbers at Oklahoma.  In nearly half of his games, last season Kennedy averaged over 10 yards a carry.

One of his most notable performances last season was against TCU where he ran the ball 18 times for 168 yards, averaging 9.3 yards per carry. Another one of his biggest games was against Oklahoma State where he ran the ball 15 times, for 165 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 11 yards per attempt.

By the end of the season, he’d rushed for 1,056 yards, 12 touchdowns and averaged 8.9 yards per carry.  With players like Brooks and Jalen Hurts lining up in the same backfield, Oklahoma is looking like they’re going to be one of the scariest offenses in the country this year.
