College Football: 25 best home-field advantages in the game today

7. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University: Lane Stadium
The Virginia Tech Hokies have a strong fan base and when they are at home inside Worsham Field at Lane Stadium, they are incredibly tough to beat. The atmosphere at Hokies home games is rivaled by few other programs in college football. For some teams, it can be downright scary to play them on the road.
ESPN rated Lane Stadium the No. 2 scariest place to play in college football, thanks to the layout of the field and the incredible fans who invade it. From 1982 through the 2014 college football season, Lane Stadium had the highest elevation of any FBS school east of the Mississippi River, although Appalachian State currently holds that title.
Still, this is a program that has sold out over 100 straight games. When they are playing inside the friendly confines of Lane Stadium, they boast an incredible .721 winning percentage. Named for Edwin Hudson Lane, a former student, and booster, Lane Stadium brings out all the true pageantry that is college football on game day.
From their Corps of Cadets, or their student tosses after each point scored, the Virginia Tech fan experience is second to none. When “Enter Sandman” starts playing during games, it can be frightening even to the more prestigious programs in the country. If you catch the Hokies on an Orange Effect night, you might as well get back on the plane.
