42. Mississippi State

The good

The state of Mississippi loves football and Starkville’s faithful are true to their SEC roots, showing up and staying loud regardless of the quality of the team on the field.

The bad

Playing in the heart of the deep south amongst some of the biggest brands in college football will keep Mississippi State from ever becoming the type of superpower they’d aspire to become.

The bottom line

The cowbells are one of the most well-known traditions in college football, beloved by State fans while simultaneously drawing the ire of every opposing fan base. It only takes one trip to Starkville or one tv broadcast (the ringing is so loud) for everyone else watching to grow tired of the clanga-clanga.

Outside of the cowbells, Mississippi State fits right in with their conference brethren, albeit with less historical success and a more arduous path to sustaining any sort of future dominance.
