37. Washington State

The good

Washington State football has found a quirky, endearing hold in the Pac-12 footprint unlike any other institution. With Nick Rolovich now at the helm, that promises to continue.

The bad

If it wasn’t for college football, the rest of the country probably wouldn’t know Pullman, WA existed. Way, way out west and a far drive from just about everywhere else, Wazzu is a nice market to the extreme.

The bottom line

2018 marked the high point of an incredible Cinderella story in the Pacific Northwest. The Washington State Cougars found themselves on the cusp of College Football Playoff contention, becoming the loveable underdog which college football has struggled to support for decades. In a sport of blue bloods and championships, Washington State stands out.

The Cougars won’t always be must-see tv, and they know that. But while the times are good, it’s hard not to love what’s happening in this small town.
