36. West Virginia

The good

The Big 12’s newest outpost along the east coast, West Virginia and their fans bring a unique flavor to the south-dominated sport. The ‘Eers are among the most boisterous groups in their part of the country.

The bad

The distance from the rich recruiting territories of Texas and Florida make the upside of the program fairly limited. They’ve had their good years, but no conference championships since the Big 12 move.

The bottom line

What West Virginia might lack in terms of national notoriety they make up for with dogged consistency. The Mountaineers have missed a bowl game just twice in the 21st century. Perpetually underdogs to Texas and Oklahoma in their own conference, this program has risen to the challenge and been willing to fight the odds time and time again. Resiliency and confidence certainly aren’t lacking in Morgantown.

West Virginia has a better geographic link to their old Big East roots, but they’ve proven they’re capable and willing to hold serve wherever they end up playing.
