25. UCLA

The good

When it comes to brand names, UCLA is among the most prominent athletic institutions in the country. The Bruins have been a mainstay in college football for nearly a century.

The bad

For as much name-recognition as they have, UCLA hasn’t kept pace with USC. To this point, the Bruins have played second fiddle to the Trojans.

The bottom line

The team was solid in the Jim Mora years but never reached the lofty expectations set forth for them by the UCLA fan base. That’s due, at least in part, to the tremendous recruiting advantage the Bruins’ have maintained over the majority of west coast schools. Few institutions have recruited at the level of UCLA, which has historically brought in Top 25 classes with regularity.

That talent has given fans plenty to cheer about. UCLA finished in the Top 10 as recently as 2014 and has all the resources to rebound to those levels again, whether that’s under Chip Kelly or someone else.
