21. Auburn

The good

The list of national championship-winning programs in the modern era is extremely short. Auburn has a title of their own and resides in the thick of the SEC footprint where, for better or worse, the emotions tend to be more extreme.

The bad

It’s hard to put too much faith in the Tigers’ fanbase because of their love-hate relationship with their own program. Gus Malzahn’s recurring hot seat perpetually puzzles those outside of the Plains.

The bottom line

What Auburn has accomplished — winning the SEC West and claiming their own national championship in an era dominated by Nick Saban and Alabama — is nothing short of spectacular. The passion of the Tigers’ fans is evident, even if it does waver between elation and disgust more frequently than most could comprehend.

That back and forth is really the only knock on a fanbase that holds their own against the best in college football.
