West Virginia Football: Game-by-game predictions for 2019
By Phil Poling
The Mountaineers final game of the season will be played on Black Friday. It won’t however, feature rival-Pitt in the Backyard Brawl. Instead, WVU will travel to Fort Worth for a battle with Gary Patterson and the TCU Horned Frogs.

TCU finished just 7-6 last season, but when Gary Patterson turns in a season like that, the following year is typically a 10-win campaign. He’s one of the best coaches in college football for a reason.
Brown and the Mountaineers will put up a fight, but Patterson’s defenses are very well coached. If the ‘Eers are even the least bit uncomfortable with their offense — whether it be the starting quarterback, shuffling along the offensive line, etc. — Patterson will note it and take advantage of it.
Prediction: TCU 28, WVU 17 (7-5, 5-4)
A 7-5 first-year campaign isn’t great, but with all the turnover he’s had to endure, it should definitely excite WVU football fans about the future with Neal Brown. If Holgorsen put together this effort in the 2019 season had he stayed at WVU, he’d likely be gone. But expectations are different for newcomers, especially those who are unproven at the Power Five level. Bowl eligibility should be the ‘Eers goal in year one under Brown, and I believe they can achieve that.
