The last time West Virginia beat Oklahoma was in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl — prior to conference realignment. Oklahoma was still fighting for Big 12 supremacy, but the Mountaineers were in the dying Big East; they’ve yet to beat the Sooners as members of the Big 12.

Two Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks have passed through Norman in as many years, and this season they’ll trot out a national championship-winning gunslinger in Jalen Hurts. Playing in the SEC (Alabama) is a bit different than the Big 12, but I’m not so sure that’ll be a bad thing for Hurts.

With Lincoln Riley slated for his third season as the Sooners’ head coach, any number of players could strap up an Oklahoma helmet and win a couple games. Riley’s simply a genius when it comes to offensive football.

This doesn’t bode well for the Mountaineers, especially since the Sooners have done different things with each quarterback they’ve had the past two seasons. Austin Kendall, the Oklahoma transfer, could be seeking revenge against his former team, though. Will his presence aid in the Sooners’ first defeat in Morgantown?

Prediction: West Virginia 34, Oklahoma 45 (3-4, 1-3)
