4. Middle Tennessee vs. Michigan (Saturday, Aug. 31)

Michigan is, yet again, a very popular preseason choice to make the College Football Playoff. And yet again, I don’t understand why.

But that’s not what we’re here to talk about. This game, much like Clemson’s matchup, is one Michigan should have no chance of losing. It’s only a matter of how dominant Michigan will look.

The Wolverines have a new offensive coordinator this year. Josh Gattis was the co-offensive coordinator at Alabama last year and the receivers coach. The promotion gives Gattis the responsibility of calling plays and bringing Michigan’s offense up to speed. The defense has been good, and there is plenty of talent on the offensive side of the ball, so we’re going to find out now if the scheme was to blame for the recent misfortunes of the program.

This game beat out Ohio State’s and Nebraska’s opening weekend matchups for this spot on the list because those teams are in very different places. Ohio State has had success lately and  Nebraska is just in year two with a new head coach. Michigan is out of excuses. We won’t have all of our questions answered about Michigan on Saturday night, but we’ll have some answered at least.
