Utah Football: 5 reasons Utes will beat BYU in 2019 edition of The Holy War
By Dante Pryor
2. BYU doesn’t have enough firepower to score on Utah
As it was mentioned before, head football coach Kalani Sitake will have the Cougars ready to play. He played for the Cougars, and understands the unique nature of the rivalry.
We are also talking about a 7-6 football team. Yes, it’s a rivalry game, and yes, the Utes had to come back to win last season, but they also had to do so with a depleted roster. The fact that the Utes were able to win that game with backups shows the talent disparity between the Cougars and the Utes.
The Cougars play with such a small margin they can’t afford to make the costly mistake and it the Utes have been proficient at forcing the Cougars into those mistakes in this series.
There’s nothing about the BYU offense that strikes fear into anyone. Their running back by-committee didn’t have a player rush for 500 yards last season, and they don’t have a receiver that can blow the top off of a defense. In fact, they didn’t even have a receiver with 30 receptions last season. The Cougars don’t do anything they can hang their hats on for four quarters that the Utes can’t stop defensively.
Expect the game to be close early — it should be. Brigham Young will be ready to play, but Utah will lean on the Cougars until they pull away late.
