2. Mike Gundy finds another good quarterback

Last season, senior quarterback Taylor Cornelius seemingly came out of nowhere to throw for almost 4,000 yards and 32 touchdowns.

In fact, can you name the last highly-touted quarterback that went to Stillwater over Norman or Austin? It seems as if Mike Gundy finds these diamonds in the rough, polishes them really well, and they shine on the field. This season will be no different.

As of the writing of this article, the identity of this year’s starting quarterback has been classified information in Stillwater, Okla., and we might not know who it is until game time. We do know this there are two candidates and three solutions at quarterback for the ‘Pokes.

First is Hawaii transfer Dru Brown who threw for 5,273 yards and 37 touchdowns while playing quarterback on the island. The second is redshirt freshman Spencer Sanders. Sanders is a dual-threat quarterback that could contribute in the run game.

Who starts depends on who Gundy wants as the centerpiece of the offense.

If it’s All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist Tylan Wallace expect Brown to get the nod. If they decide to focus the offense around the run and running back Chuba Hubbard, then Sanders might start for the Cowboys. Then there’s the third thing — the Gundy thing. Figure out a way to play both Brown and Sanders.

No matter which option they choose you’ll see that Gundy dust all over those quarterbacks.
