Utah Football: 3 takeaways from 2019 Holy War win over BYU
By Shelbie Warr
It was a close game all the way through, but Utah football was able to take control late and win 30-12. What did we learn in this one?
It has been now nine straight seasons that Utah has taken down BYU and it was once again a close and exciting matchup. There were many moments that could have gone either way, but it was the Utes that came out on top.
Both teams showed strong moments and some that weren’t so great. We learned a lot about both of these teams as the 2019 season begins to unfold.
3. There we quite a few avoidable mistakes for both sides
This game was full of mistakes. Lots of flags, turnovers and missed field goals or extra points that could have easily changed this game. However, it was BYU’s mistakes that seemed to be game-changers in this one.
Yes, Utah missed an extra point and a field goal, but when BYU turned the ball over three times and Utah was able to capitalize on those with touchdowns, the game is suddenly a different one altogether. Twenty points off turnovers will surely change a game.
Both of these teams have quite a bit to clean up as they continue on throughout the season. It doesn’t get any easier for either group. BYU heads to Tennessee and will face off against Washington in the next couple weeks. Utah plays in a questionable Pac-12 division, full of teams that no one is sure about.
Simply put, these teams will not survive what is ahead of them playing as sloppily as they did in the latest episode of the Holy War.
