5. Georgia Bulldogs (1-0)
Georgia had a relatively straightforward 30-6 win over Vanderbilt, a result that was solid if unspectacular when compared to some of the other victories this year. The Bulldogs are still the class of the SEC East and will remain in the top five, but they could potentially get leapfrogged by a couple teams that simply had performances that stood out more.
4. LSU Tigers (1-0)
After becoming the first team to defeat UCF in two seasons, LSU looks even more dominant to start their 2019 campaign. Joe Burrow looked confident in the revamped offense, finishing with 278 passing yards and five touchdowns through the air. More importantly, they allowed just a field goal to Georgia Southern as they dominated their Sun Belt opponent in a 55-3 victory.
3. Oklahoma Sooners (1-0)
Oklahoma will likely move up a spot to No. 3 in this week’s AP Top 25 after Jalen Hurts put on a clinic against Houston on Sunday. The Sooners saw their latest transfer quarterback account for more than 500 total yards of offense in his debut in Norman, throwing for 332 yards on 20-of-23 passing and rushing for 172 yards on 16 carries while punching in six total touchdowns.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0)
Alabama clinically eviscerated Duke in their season opener in Atlanta, ensuring that the Crimson Tide remain right behind Clemson in the first AP Top 25 of the regular season. Tua Tagovailoa was an efficient 26-of-31 for 336 yards and four touchdowns in the rout of the Blue Devils, the eighth straight year that the Tide have won a neutral-site season opener over a Power Five opponent.
1. Clemson Tigers (1-0)
While Trevor Lawrence looked rusty in the season opener against Georgia Tech, Clemson did more than enough in a 52-14 shellacking of the Yellow Jackets to stay locked in at No. 1 in this week’s AP Top 25. They benefitted heavily from 205 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just a dozen carries by Travis Etienne, who looked like the most Heisman-ready player on the Tigers roster in Week 1.
Can Clemson maintain the top spot next week when they host Texas A&M? Can someone else steal away No. 1 from the defending champions? Stay tuned as we break down projections for the AP Top 25 each week.
