2020 NFL Mock Draft: First round projections after Week 1
This pick is just Cleveland going for the jugular. If they really pick this late it’s because they aren’t far off from winning a Super Bowl. The offense is loaded and frankly so is the defense. Cleveland could trade down and maximize this asset, but I can’t project trades so I’m going to take a pass rusher. It’s not what the Browns needs, but it would make them that much more dangerous.
Jabari Zuniga is in his fourth season of getting significant playing time at Florida so there is plenty of tape to scout from. This year he is expected to break out though. Zuniga is an unrefined pass rusher, but he makes up for it by being strong in the run game. He won’t be a liability in the defensive front seven when the opponent hands it off whatsoever.
And playing opposite of Myles Garrett for the future would ensure plenty of isolated matchups with offensive linemen. Zuniga could only ever become an average pass rusher and still make that work.
His ceiling is high enough to warrant the pick, plus the insurance that he can at least play the run is valuable enough to grab here. Olivier Vernon will be heading into the last year of his deal and the Browns could save a ton of money by not bringing him back. If they fill that hole in the draft, I can’t think of many better players than Zuniga at this point.
