Scouting Report. Safety. LSU. Grant Delpit. 6. player. Pick Analysis. 50

Grant Delpit is a prospect that some might see as the best in the 2020 draft regardless of position. For the Lions and head coach Matt Patricia to get a talent like this at sixth overall would be a huge win. The Detroit offense is getting more and more stale by the minute, but that’s not Patricia’s concern. And maybe it shouldn’t be.

The Vikings and Bears have won the division each of the last two seasons behind great defenses. Adding Delpit would put Detroit on its way to building a great defense of its own.

The list of LSU defensive backs in the NFL speaks for itself. Jamal Adams, Tre-Davious White, Tyrann Mathieu, and Patrick Peterson are all some of the best at their positions in the league. We’ll see what’s in store for Greedy Williams in Cleveland. Not every great defensive back comes from LSU, but it seems like every defensive back that comes from LSU is great.

Delpit can do it all as a safety, which is why he’s going this high in this mock. Safeties are becoming so undervalued in the NFL, and we aren’t sure why. Yet having an elite player at that position is a staple for great defenses.

Detroit should run their card to the podium if Delpit falls to them. Patricia would be thrilled and Lions fans would have a true stud of their own to pull for after some not-so-flashy early draft picks lately.
