2020 NFL Mock Draft: First round projections after Week 1
Here’s your first helping of vegetables. You don’t like it, but you have to take it. Mocking offensive linemen isn’t any fun, but the Cardinals have almost no choice next spring.
It’s a great thing that Kyler Murray is so mobile because he’s going to be running for his life next year. Arizona has been top five in most sacks given up each of the last two seasons and didn’t take a single offensive lineman until the seventh round in last year’s draft. Tristan Wirfs is a step towards fixing that and it shouldn’t matter if Kliff Kingsbury wants to take another wide receiver or not.
Depending on how well you can scout offensive linemen, Wirfs is at least in the discussion for the best one available in this draft. I chose him to Arizona because of Iowa’s pedigree for producing the position and he’s projecting to be a great athlete for his position. There shouldn’t be much of a reason not to take Wirfs unless you like Andrew Thomas more, who plays the same position.
Seriously though, Cardinals fans, you have to eat your veggies. Something tells me they’re aware of this, though.
If the Cardinals decide to pass on an offensive lineman I would be floored. They don’t need any more receivers and there isn’t a tight end worth picking this early like last year. The defense could always use some help, but something tells me that’s not how Arizona plans on winning games.
