2020 NFL Mock Draft: First round projections after Week 1
The Raiders have two picks in the first round thanks to Chicago relinquishing a first in 2020 as well for Khalil Mack. This pick is not that pick, however. This is the pick the Raiders earned all on their own. And with that, I have them making a totally Raiders type of pick.
Laviska Shenault was one of the biggest surprises of college football last year after bursting onto the scene with massive performances early in the season. His season totals don’t reflect just how good he was since he only played in nine games. He surely would have broken the 100-catch mark and gone over ten touchdowns for the year if not for missing those games. And Colorado may have seen more success if not for him missing those games either. When Shenault went down, the team just wasn’t the same.
Shenault is built exactly how you want a No. 1 receiver to be and he succeeds at everything asked of him. If not for Jerry Jeudy, Shenault would be in the discussion for the best receiver in this draft.
The Raiders might be in need of Shenault’s do-it-all services if Antonio Brown doesn’t get his helmet situation figured out soon. Plus, Brown is on the wrong side of 30 already and only getting older. If Carr is the long-term answer at quarterback, which is far from certain, the move could be to get him a weapon with this pick in such a loaded class and use the other pick to draft a position of more need.
