I’m now convinced anyone with a pulse can play quarterback under Mike Leach. New starting quarterback Anthony Gordon was efficient in throwing for 420 yards and five touchdowns. The most promising sign for the Cougars is the two interceptions they were able to get after losing star safety Jalen Thompson in the offseason. Keep an eye on these Cougars, they’re looking to break through the top of the conference.

The Huskies haven’t missed a beat, as the Jacob Eason era is off to a great start. He threw for 349 yards and four touchdowns in his opening game for Washington. This team has been at the top of the conference for all the Chris Petersen era, and it looks as though it will not stop in 2019. The Huskies will look to get the conference slate off to a strong start against a good Cal defense.

Holy moly, after an offseason of playoff hype, the Utes lived up to the billing. The defense was fantastic, Zack Moss ran for 197 yards, and Tyler Huntley was excellent at managing the game in an emotional Holy War contest. The Utes are for real, but they’ll have to make plays in the passing game more often, as they cannot rely on Herculean efforts from Moss every week. For now, they look the part of playoff sleeper in college football.
