SEC Football Power Rankings, Week 1: Can anyone catch Alabama?
The signature SEC win of the week came in primetime from Arlington. Auburn trailed Oregon for most of the contest, but in he fourth quarter, the first chapter in the legend of Bo Nix was written. The freshman brushed aside a difficult game and put together key drives late, which included the game-winning touchdown pass to Seth Williams.
Of course, the Tigers were in the game because of the defense. Without Kevin Steele’s defense, the Ducks would likely have gone far over the 21 points they scored.
The defense is there, and if Bo and the offense can grow into a more consistent unit, this Tiger team has several more big-game opportunities to play spoiler.
Week 1 saw LSU take down Georgia Southern 55-3. Joe Burrow threw for five touchdowns and it was already 42-3 by halftime.
However, the attention shifts quickly. This week, the Tigers will travel to Austin to take on the ninth ranked Texas Longhorns. This new-look Joe Brady offense will truly be tested when they go head-to-head with Todd Orlando’s defense.
This game will feature a great quarterback matchup as well, with Burrow going up against the Longhorns’ Sam Ehlinger.
