SEC Football Power Rankings, Week 1: Can anyone catch Alabama?
As mentioned earlier, Georgia handled Vanderbilt easily on Saturday. They let up a bit in the second half, which wasn’t an ideal look, but this is still a great team.
The Bulldog defense, which lost some significant pieces, looked especially formidable. Ke’Shawn Vaughn was held under 100 yards, and even more impressively, the Commodores only threw for nine yards over the century mark.
The next two weeks will see the Bulldogs take on Murray State and Arkansas State, so a 3-0 start looks to be in the cards in Athens.
The Tide cruised to a 42-3 win over Duke in the season opener. There was the usual, opening half struggle that Alabama seems to hit every year in Week 1, but it proved to be a small bump in the road.
As a result, this was exactly what most people expected. Tua Tagovailoa was great, throwing for 336 yards and four touchdowns. Jerry Jeudy may be the nation’s best wideout, as he displayed on Saturday with his 137 yards.
Alabama hosts New Mexico State next week, and will then travel to Columbia to face South Carolina the following week. After the results of Week 1, it appears the Tide will hold this spot for the foreseeable future.
