2. Army falls just short once again
Two years ago, Army played Penn State close. Last year, Army took Oklahoma to the wire. The Sooners got the victory in overtime, but Jeff Monken’s team announced its arrival as a legitimate threat.
On Saturday, they once again pushed a college football power to the limit. Even more impressive about this performance was the way the Black Knights dominated the way the game was played. As is the goal for this triple option offense, Army was leading the time of possession battle and had a significant advantage in that department before the Wolverines turned the tide late in the third quarter.
Unfortunately for the Black Knights, the window was left open just wide enough for Michigan to get back in. A rare Kelvin Hopkins pass was picked off by Michigan’s Hill, and the Wolverines were able to keep the game within striking distance for the rest of the second half.
They may not have been able to put this one into the win column, but make no mistake, Army has established itself as anything but an easy out.
