LSU Football: 3 takeaways from statement win over Texas in Week 2
By Dante Pryor
1. Joe Burrow deserves Heisman recognition
Let the Joe Burrow Heisman talk begin. Not for me, but for someone else. No matter how you feel about his Heisman chances, his performance tonight was fantastic. He faced a good defense and put up 45 points.
Burrow was as composed as I’ve seen a quarterback in some time. The Longorns blitzed him mercilessly and he continued to make throw after throw. It was Burrow who kept the LSU offense on schedule. He put the ball on his receivers so they could make plays after the catch.
Even when they got to him, he made either smart decisions with the ball like that 60-yard bomb he came in with. One of the knocks on Burrow was his accuracy. Last season Burrow completed less than 60 percent of his passes but he was sharp against Texas — he completed 79 percent of his passes which is up significantly from last season.
Burrow proved tonight that he is more than just a game manager, he can put the team his back and carry them to victory like he did on Saturday.
