2. Javonte Williams got the job done
Javonte Williams rushed for 76 yards on 10 attempts in this game. His longest run was for 22 yards and he added one touchdown to his line. In all, the game wasn’t spectacular for Williams against a stout Miami front four but it was enough to get the job done.
Through two games, Javonte is averaging 6.6 yards per carry against two of the tougher defensive lines North Carolina should face all season. He has run the ball with attitude, breaking multiple tackles each game. He also has the elusiveness to break out in the open, and the speed to carry him to the end zone.
The offensive line played well up front but I believe they will be better moving forward. This only means bigger numbers for Williams out of the backfield. He has established himself as the number one back in the group and will look to be the bell cow moving forward in this offense.
Look for Williams to continue to get more carries as the season progresses to alleviate the pressure from his freshman quarterback. Screen plays and dump passes will probably pad his stats as the season wears on as well. I would look for Javonte Williams to finish the season in the top third of ACC backs in the division.
