USC Football: 3 takeaways from Trojans’ lopsided win over Stanford
By Dana Becker
1. The legend of Kedon Slovis begins
Carson Palmer. Matt Leinart. Mark Sanchez. Matt Barkley. Cody Kessler. Sam Darnold. Go ahead and throw Kedon Slovis up there on the board of greats to play the quarterback position over the past 20 years for USC.
Slovis had some obvious first game jitters when he was forced into action in Week 1 vs. Fresno State after an injury to JT Daniels, but after seeing what he did to the Cardinal, it was obvious why the coaching staff had a lengthy battle to determine the depth chart at the position.
A 6-foot-2 freshman out of Arizona, Slovis found eight different players on the night, completing 28-of-33 overall for 377 yards and three touchdowns. More importantly, he had no interceptions and even added positive yards rushing to his stats.
For the Trojans to truly be back among the elite both in the conference and the nation, Slovis will need to continue to rely on his skill players around him and his incredible talents gifted to him.
