ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 3: North Carolina’s stock up
By Dante Pryor
If Syracuse was real Wall Street stock, lots of people would be out of lots of money. The Liberty game could be forgiven. It’s a sleepy noon kick in Lynchburg, so we just get through this game and get ready for the Terrapins. The Terrapins — whoa. Who saw that coming?
This ranking might be both an overreaction and a “this is how bad they played this week” ranking, but they got boat raced in College Park against Maryland. That game was beyond brutal. Either Syracuse isn’t who we thought they were (in my Denny Green voice), or Maryland is a lot better than we thought — or both.
Speaking of bad stock, the Seminoles are down here after a win? Yup, they are. You have one job — one job. You snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against Boise State by deciding not to play football in the second half, so your job is to come out and decimate a far inferior opponent in Louisiana-Monroe.
What do you do Florida State? You win in overtime because of a missed extra point. There are some deep cultural issues going on within the Florida State athletic program, not just the football team. However, head coach Willie Taggart and the Seminoles should have had a huge chip on their shoulders instead, they looked as if they didn’t want to be out there at times.
Break out the Ramblin’ Wreck. They got one against the South Florida Bulls. There’s a lot that can be forgiven about the ‘Jackets so far this season. They’ve played three quarterbacks this season, and none of them have thrown for 100 yards. They only have one touchdown pass between the three of them. They’ve scored 28 points through two games this year, but you know what? They won a game.
Yeah, it might be a testament to how bad the Bulls are this season, but if you can’t beat a bad team how are else are you going to find confidence building wins? When head coach Geoff Collins says, “Hey we’re getting better one day at a time,” they now have proof.
