Speaking of shootouts, here are another two teams with potential to light up the scoreboard. It is Cougars vs. Cougars at NRG Stadium in Houston Friday night. Washington State is a nine point favorite.

This will be Washington State’s first road trip of the year, even though it is technically a neutral site game. The Cougars have averaged 58.5 points and 606 yards in their first two victories over New Mexico State and Northern Colorado. Houston dropped their opener against Oklahoma but bounced back to beat Prairie View A&M last week, 37-17.

Throw out the defenses for this one. Quarterback Anthony Gordon is in his fifth year in Pullman but barely played in his first four years. Now he is running the Air Raid offense of Washington State with deadly precision. With Houston, D’Eriq King is a big time dual threat quarterback, having the ability to make Washington State pay with his big arm or his legs.

One of the interesting subplots of this game is Houston coach Dana Holgorsen played for Washington State’s Mike Leach and coached under him at Texas Tech. Can the student beat the teacher?

Going back to 2014, Houston has defeated at least one Power Five team every season. The streak continues this year as Houston outlasts Washington State in a shootout.
