3. Alabama’s run game struggled

One of the big story lines coming into this game for the Crimson Tide was the run game. Alabama has thrown the ball all over their competition and this game was no different. However, the Tide were not able to establish a meaningful run game.

The offensive line seemed to struggle with run blocking assignments against South Carolina who were gashed by North Carolina two weeks ago. Their leading rusher was Najee Harris who totaled only 36 yards from scrimmage. The team as a whole only put up 76 rushing yards total. The team as a whole only averaged 3.0 yards per carry.

A lot of that came be overcome by a short passing game where every receiver can take it to the house. Fiver receivers for Alabama had a 20-plus yard chunk play catch. The longest came on an 81-yard touchdown off of a 7-yard slant route to Henry Ruggs III. If someone can keep these receivers in check, a tall task to ask of anyone, the Tide may struggle to run the ball.
