Alabama Football: 3 takeaways from comfortable win over South Carolina
By David Harvey
1. Gamecocks have a bright future
The Tide walked away late in this one but the score doesn’t fully reflect the way the game was played. The Gamecocks showed heart and determination against a more talented team. They played strong through three quarters.
Will Muschamp laid everything on the line in this one. He pulled out trick play after trick play. He also went for it four times on fourth down and succeeded twice. He looked like a coach with no fear and nothing to lose. Most people would say that this style of coaching would have won the game against UNC. If he continues this type of play calling, things could be looking up for the Gamecocks.
Ryan Hilinski has also proven to the team that he is their guy. He makes great decisions with the ball. Even against a stiff pass defense, he put up terrific numbers. He hung tough in the pocket to deliver some passes, knowing he was about to be laid out. The kid showed a lot of heart and moxie.
Coming into this season, everyone thought that Tavien Feaster was going to walk over from Clemson and automatically start for the Gamecocks. Rico Dowdle just came off of his second 100 yard rushing game in as many weeks. He has proven that he is the featured back in this offense and is poised for a great season.
The better team won the game in this one. Alabama proved their dominance is still strong in the SEC . It will be tough to unseat them with so many great skill position players across the board.
