College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 4 – Clemson makes statement
By Zach Bigalke
The 100th meeting of Penn State and Pittsburgh was delayed by a lightning threat in the State College area, and once the game started playing the two rivals pummeled one another in the rain. Penn State ultimately prevailed at home in a tight 17-10 victory that was in danger down to the final whistle.
On a wet day, Sean Clifford completed only 14 of his 30 passing attempts. Finishing with 222 yards in the air, he was able to add only five yards on the ground. Starting Journey Brown over Ricky Slade proved smart, as Brown finished with 109 rushing yards on 10 carries and added a 16-yard reception for good measure.
It was hardly the prettiest victory for Penn State, but pollsters will be unlikely to drop them on their ballots this week given everything else that transpired around the country after this result was in the books. The Nittany Lions get a bye in Week 4 to regroup and correct the mistakes from this contest before they head to College Park for the start of Big Ten play against Maryland in a Friday-night thriller.
