Texas Longhorns. player. 851. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. won 48-13 at Rice. NEXT: 9/21 vs. Oklahoma State. 12

Texas trounced Rice on the road in Houston on Saturday night, improving to 2-1 in a rebound after the LSU loss. The Longhorns secured their spot on the cusp of the top 10 in the AP Top 25. Tom Herman’s team made sure that the Owls had no chance of springing an upset on their Power Five visitors, as they ran up the score in a 48-13 victory.

Sam Ehlinger was nearly perfect in the victory, throwing for three touchdowns and 279 yards on 23-of-27 passing. Keaontay Ingram churned out 74 yards and a pair of scores on 13 handoffs, and added a pair of receptions for 19 yards for good measure. The Longhorns defense, meanwhile, held Rice under 100 rushing yards to neutralize the two-touchdown performance by Owls quarterback Tom Stewart.

Now Big 12 season opens up for Texas after recovering from the loss in the showcase game on their non-conference slate. Texas hosts Oklahoma State in Week 4, then gets a bye before opening up the October schedule with a trip to Morgantown to face West Virginia.
