College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 4 – Clemson makes statement
By Zach Bigalke
It wasn’t the prettiest of victories, but for the second straight season Arizona State knocked off Michigan State by a field goal. When they pulled off the feat last season, it pushed the Sun Devils up into the AP Top 25. They will likely enter the polls in similar fashion this week after the 10-7 victory on the road in East Lansing.
Jayden Daniels went 15-of-26 for 140 yards, a pedestrian day for the young quarterback. More shocking was the fact that Eno Benjamin was held to 38 yards on 11 carries by the stout Spartans defense. The Sun Devils prevailed thanks to kicker Christian Zendejas, whose 42-yard field goal in the first half proved the difference in a game where his Spartans counterpart Matt Coghlin missed three field goals, including the potential game-tying kick on the final play.
Falling in somewhere between No. 21 and No. 25 in the newest AP Top 25 this week, Arizona State will head home to prepare for a divisional showdown against Colorado. They will then close out September on a short week with a Friday-night showdown in Berkeley against Cal.
