Oklahoma trounced UCLA at the Rose Bowl in Week 3, taking down Chip Kelly’s Bruins 48-14 to maintain their hold on a top-five spot in the AP Top 25. In a balanced effort, the Sooners finished with 300-plus passing yards and 300-plus rushing yards for the key road victory in non-conference play.

Jalen Hurts continues to look like a Heisman threat in the Oklahoma offense. The Alabama transfer finished the day 15-of-20 for 289 passing yards and three touchdowns in the air, while adding 150 rushing yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. The rest of the Sooners backfield needed 27 carries to reach 159 yards as a group, showing just how dominant Hurts has become in this scheme.
With a bye in Week 4, Oklahoma will regroup and turn their focus to their first Big 12 contest against Texas Tech at home on the final weekend of September. Thanks to the talent Hurts brings to the table in Norman, the Sooners should still be in the top five when they return to the gridiron in two weeks.
