College Football Rankings 2019: Projected Top 25, Week 4 – Clemson makes statement

Virginia looked in danger of falling at home to Florida State in Week 3, as the Seminoles held a 17-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter. But the Cavaliers piled on 21 points in the final frame to survive and remain undefeated with a 31-24 escape in the conference opener for both teams. Bronco Mendenhall’s team will likely push up a spot or two in this week’s AP Top 25 thanks to losses all around them in the poll.
Bryce Perkins went 30-of-40 for 295 yards, and he added 46 yards on a dozen carries. But Perkins threw two interceptions to allow Florida State to remain in a contest where they had no business remaining competitive. Wayne Taulapapa’s three rushing touchdowns proved critical for the Cavaliers as they skirted to the narrow victory at home.
Next week Old Dominion comes to Charlottesville for another non-conference opportunity. The Monarchs offer a chance to clean things up after the Seminoles game, and get in peak condition for the trip to South Bend to face Notre Dame on the final Saturday of September.
